Medik8 Reclaims Operational Control with Scalable Odoo ERP Revamp

Medik8 is a global skincare brand known for its science-backed formulations and focus on sustainable dermatological innovation. With operations spanning multiple countries and channels—including D2C, retail, and professional—Medik8 relies on robust backend systems to ensure smooth operations across manufacturing, inventory, e-commerce, and finance.

After a challenging and highly customised implementation of Odoo Version 15 that led to instability and inefficiencies, Medik8 partnered with Target Integration to stabilise the platform, streamline business processes, and restore confidence among users and stakeholders.

The Challenge

Medik8’s previous Odoo implementation had been heavily customised, resulting in technical instability, inconsistent user experience, and fragmented workflows. The organisation faced several challenges:

Lack of Accounting Training

Medik8’s team lacked training in Odoo’s accounting module, leading to underutilisation and manual workarounds. Financial operations such as reconciliation and invoicing were labour-intensive and error-prone.

Inefficient Warehouse & Stock Management

The existing warehouse and manufacturing modules lacked configuration and usability. Operators struggled with complex screens and poor visibility, leading to production delays and inventory mismatches.

Overreliance on Finance Team for Sales and Purchasing

Sales and procurement teams were overly dependent on the finance department due to missing workflows and approval hierarchies, slowing down order creation and approval processes.

Disconnected E-commerce Order Flow

High-volume e-commerce platforms like Shopify and Amazon were integrated via unstable third-party connectors. These connectors were unable to process large order volumes, severely impacting fulfilment, especially during peak periods like Black Friday

The Solution

To overcome these operational inefficiencies, Medik8 engaged Target Integration for a structured Odoo reimplementation, focused on reconfiguring rather than customising the system. This involved aligning Odoo’s standard functionality with Medik8’s workflows, upgrading third-party integrations, and empowering internal teams through training.

Design and Implementation

The implementation strategy followed a phased, business-prioritised roadmap. Key components included:

  • Discovery & Gap Analysis: A collaborative assessment of current processes, pain points, and improvement opportunities across departments.
  • Data Audit & Migration: Cleaning and transitioning critical business data into a stable environment within Odoo.
  • Training & Change Management: Conducting functional workshops and role-based training sessions to ensure user adoption.
  • Localisation & Governance: Aligning financial modules with compliance requirements and introducing workflow-based approvals.
  • Connector Redevelopment: Collaborating with Amipro to stabilise and enhance the Shopify and Amazon order connectors.

Spotlight Features

A highlight of the solution was the e-commerce integration overhaul, where existing limitations in order processing speed and reliability were dramatically improved. Post-fix, Shopify handled:

  • 40,000 orders during Black Friday week

  • 2,000 orders per hour, up from a previous cap of 200 orders per hour

This scalability was made possible by identifying and resolving deep code-level issues in the connectors and aligning data flow with warehouse capacity and order fulfilment cycles.

Medik8 now operates with greater confidence in its Odoo ERP environment. The revamped system provides real-time business insights, supports high-volume e-commerce channels, and empowers internal teams to operate with autonomy and efficiency. By focusing on scalability, training, and native functionality, Target Integration helped Medik8 turn a failing ERP implementation into a strategic business enabler.
