Automating Environmental Reporting from the River Thames
One of the key projects we supported involved the Sandford hydroelectric power plant on the River Thames. This plant generates clean electricity through turbines installed by Andritz, with a B&R Modbus X20 PLC controlling operations.
To ensure compliance and optimise flow, data from the hydro plant must be sent to the Environment Agency, which uses this information to regulate water flow. We engineered a solution using a Raspberry Pi 3 Model B connected to the X20 controller via Modbus. The device uploads critical operational data to the cloud, enabling real-time dashboard visualisation and automated environmental reporting.

Simplifying Solar Billing for Over 50 Sites
In another project, we helped automate billing for an estate of 50+ solar panel installations located on commercial premises. Previously, meter readings had to be collected and entered manually – a time-consuming process with room for error.
We developed a system to pull daily readings directly from the meter providers, producing a monthly spreadsheet ready for upload into QuickBooks. This has drastically reduced admin work and helped the finance team focus on more strategic tasks.

To provide a clearer picture of their performance, we built several Power BI dashboards covering:

With advanced DAX queries and custom visuals like pressure gauges and water glass indicators, the dashboards help identify underperforming assets and ensure full transparency across operations.
Microsoft 365 Training & Ongoing Support
As part of our broader digital support, we also delivered on-site Microsoft 365 training, helping the LCH team make better use of SharePoint, Teams, and OneDrive for collaboration and document management. The feedback was incredibly positive, with plans for future sessions already being discussed.
